As Hook in4 Health is a Sport for Development Program the key outcome is for communities in PNG, Solomon Islands and Vanuatu to Live Well, Learn Well, and Lead Well through Hockey. When the program was first introduced to these three national federations all activities took part in the main urban centres. As confidence grew within the staff teams they started to spread into the wider outreach communities.
Solomon Islands – In April the Hin4H team took to the waters to head to Louna Community, a small island in the Russell Islands group in the Central Province. This is the first time that the Hin4H team have been beyond the main island of Guadalcanal.
“Seeing the excitement on peoples faces reminds us why we do what we do. This program is more than just teaching hockey, it’s about connection, joy, and impact. The response was incredible from the community and we shared our core message of Live Well, Learn Well, Lead Well encouraging everyone to grow not just in hockey skills but in life.” Joachim Rande ICC

Papua New Guinea – This program was the first, of the three to be established, and reached out into the communities into the second year by visiting Manus, Morobe, and Tanna provincial regions. As a result of the enthusiasm in Lae (Morobe) Hin4H established a staff team on site. the highlight for the Lae staff was the visit to Mapos Village late last year, which is in the Highlands. This has resulted in planned return visits this year. The Port Moresby team began a connection working with Taurama Community mid 2025 where there was no local school for the children to attend. A primary school was established this year for the children and the Hin4H team have been visiting on a weekly basis. OHF Program Manager Gill Gemming was fortunate enough to be able to join the team on April 3 where she saw a great delivery that showed the value of the program in not just providing the students with sporting activities but also giving support to their teaching staff. The activities were going to improve life-skills – Health and Nutrition, Communication, Teamwork and Leadership.

Vanuatu – The program has established around Port Vila on the island of Efate. Because of the distances to communities around Efate are more accessible this team expanded out into the communities much earlier. there are now 7 outreach communities involved on a weekly basis around Efate who come together twice a year for a Mamas festival, playing hockey gaining health messaging and sharing a nutritious lunch.
