Oceania Hockey Federation was well represented at the Men’s Nations Cup recently held in Malaysia. The OHF contingent all had strong performances, capped off with Zeke Newman umpiring the final.

This tournament proved to be another development opportunity for rising umpires Ben Grant and Nick Saunders.

Ben Grant stated that “Malaysia put on a fantastic event and the tournament was tightly fought with the large majority of games decided by a goal or less. We were fortunate to have a very strong panel of officials which included five who were part of the Paris Olympics. It was special to learn from such a high calibre group, including several Oceania officials who are well represented at the top level of our game. All of this has enabled me to develop my craft and be better placed for future appointments.”

Nick Saunders said “It was an incredible experience, especially umpiring my first ever full men’s international 11-aside match with my good mate on the other side. Grateful to be part of such a high calibre tournament with an experienced panel. Took away lots of great memories and learnings from the week.”

The New Zealand Black Sticks convincingly won the tournament with a 6-2 win over Pakistan in the final, becoming back to back Nations Cup champions.

OHF was also represented at the inaugural Women’s Nations Cup 2 held recently in Poland. Kelly-Anne Foskin was appointed to umpire in her first international tournament. She had a very successful week with being appointed to the final between France and Uruguay.
