HISTORY & GOVERNANCE
Samoa has been involved with hockey since the 70s. The Federation positively engaged in school, club and regional programs. Their most successful period to date has been from 2000 - 2018 competing successfully in Oceania Cups, FIH World League, Oceania Pacific Tournaments in Suva and the Federation took both men and women's silver medals at the 2017 Oceania Intercontinental Hockey 5s in Sydney. The national teams have been strong at Pacific Games taking medals in the 2003 and 2007 Games.
The 2007 Pacific Games was superbly hosted by Samoa and hockey was really progressing well but unfortunately the field designated for hockey was taken to build other facilities and that made it very difficult for the Federation to continue running competitions.
On December 6th 2021 the SHF Annual General Meeting was held and the following are the elected Officers:
President : Faamausili Taiva Ah Young (on left of first photo)
Vice President: Ms Le Mamea Peta Mualia-Te'o (on right second photo)
Treasuerer : Ms Miti Samau Falesii
Secretary: Ms Tutumanu Piuiki Mata'utia
OHF is now engaged with SASNOC to assist with the re - engagement of Samoa as Hockey5s will be an ideal format for Samoa with limted field access. They have very talented athletes and family links in both Australia and New Zealand. They proved this in their last international outing in 2017 where although they had not had any experience with Hockey5s the depth of talent and the fact that they had played 6s at home resulted in both teams being incredibly competitive taking both silver medals.
