Congratulations to Astral Smith and Rosemary Masitabua who were two of the officials appointed to the NZ Heritage Tournament held in Auckland, NZ over Easter. Both Astral and Rose were excited for the opportunity to grow their skills as technical officials under the expert tutelage of Richard Baggs.
2025 was the 5th year that the Heritage tournament has been in place, and this year it was expanded to include Punjab teams from India along with players from Fiji who traveled to make up Fiji Heritage teams with locals.
This year was made extra special with the formal presentation of a Wau from Kaiviti Fiji Heritage to NZ Heritage Hockey to be used the men’s champion trophy. This Wau was originally gifted to Hockey NZ in 2015 from a visiting Fijian mens side.
Tournament teams were selected to represent NZ Heritage Hockey at the International Hockey Cup being held in Melbourne later this year. Congratulations to Divyankar Kumar, Catherine Fabiano, Jacob Soo Choon, and Darren Sawaki who have been selected from the Fiji Heritage teams.
