Vanuatu's planning for 2023

Published Tue 13 Dec 2022

Vanuatu Development Staff have had an excellent year, providing a huge range of opportunities for a wide range of groups of different abilities to engage in hockey activities, with the aim for communities to Live well, Learn well, and Lead well.

As a result of this engagement the Hin4H team in collaboration with Vanuatu Hockey Federation and Partner Wan Smolbag, put their 2022 learnings directly into their 2023 plans.

'Mamas in Hockey' is the activity that has had the most significant impact. In 2023 this program has been expanded to include an extra day each week with more opportunities to engage with other 'Mama's in Hockey' communities. While there are currently three groups of 'Mamas' (Mele, Saama, Eratap) this will increase to 6 groups in 2023 (Plantinier, Louniel Laxand, Mele Village - second group)

The Port Vila after school program has increased significantly in numbers attending. A result of this is a new secondary school competition is planned for 2023.

As part of planning for 2023 Nasse and Gill met with two partners who will continue to play a significant part in both the sport of Hockey and in Hook in4Health objectives.

The first meeting was with VASANOC as seen in the photo. (Left to right: Matthias Boe, Nasse and Gill, Ceo James Malau). VHF will establish a new office in VASANOC House in 2023 which will be important to provide a closer link for hockey for training opportunities across a number of areas under OSEP programs.

The second meeting of importance was with Wansmolbag Director Peter Walker who was very supportive of the Hook in4 Health program objectives and remaining as a partner in the project as it develops further.
