Solomon Islands National Sports Institute - what a bonus for Hockey in the Solomon Islands

The Solomon Islands National Institute of Sport (SINIS) is an initiative of the Solomon Islands Government, to support athletes, coaches and National Federations of Solomon Islands who compete at international competitions, including sports that represent Team Solomons at the major multi-sport events .

Aaron Alsop who had been involved in similar orgainisations with Pacific Games in Port Moresby and Samoa was appointed to lead SINIS and its programs on behalf of the SI Government.
Solomon Islands Hockey Federation signed a MOU with SINIS in January 2022 to help lift the performance of hockey athletes and coaches in preparation for the Pacific Games in late November 2023.
Four Coaches have had the opportunity to complete workshops and be accredited through SINIS - Lyn Basii, Esmie Belo, Jack Donga, and Paul Luiramo.
The athletes started with squads of 36 men and 36 women, and by June 2023 these squads had been reduced to squads of 18 participants and 4 goal keepers.The athletes have been training, in most cases, twice a day under the guidance of the SINIS staff, both physical staff and physios.The majority of the skill sessions have been out on the grass field but over the last few months as its got closer to the July World Cup Qualifier on the Gold Coast, they have been training inside on the smoother surfaced basketball court.
