Solomon Islands Prepare for Pacific Games

Published Mon 10 Oct 2022

24 female and 24 male athletes have been training regularly with several sessions a week at SINIS under the guidance of high performance specialists. The sessions involve a mixture of sports science including fitness levels, as well as on-field hockey practical trainings. Two of their coaches, Lyn Basii and Paul Luiramo have completed a coaching workshop over several weeks which has involved overseeing the practical hockey sessions as part of their course.

At the end of September this squad was trimmed to 16 female and 16 male athletes after a robust selection process that involved fitness assessment and hockey 5s games. The 32 players selected were given a full SINIS scholarship while the remaining group were positively recognised by being granted a development scholarship.

SIHF recognise that administratively there will be a lot of organisation to be undertaken to 500train volunteers to ensure the hockey competition is a positive one for all participants. SIHF Executive Board will meet with the PG Technical Delegate Gill Gemming from the 14th to the 19th of October to begin that training.
