Oceania Pacific Cup Revived

Published Wed 05 Jun 2024

Oceania Competitions were discussed at the World Cup Hockey 5s Qualifier in the Gold Coast in July 2023. The Pacific Island National Federations were keen to see an annual competition between their nations. OHF responded to this with the view to revive the original Pacific Cup, keeping it in its original time slot of December, when all local hockey is completed.

The History of the Oceania Pacific Cup is attached as a PDF below.

This was a very sucessful event that ran from 2008 through to 2018, starting as an 11 aside competition and in the final 2 years being 5 aside. Australia and New Zealand sent invitation teams namely the Australian Country Under 21 Teams and New Zealand Barbarians and Maori Men's teams, President's and Maori Women's teams. THe original intention of the tournament was to raise the performance levels of the Pacific Islands both on and off the field. This was also a very successful avenue for the development and advancement of umpires and technical officials.

OHF is working with Ntional Federations to determine the venue for December 2024. This should be announced very soon.
